Fountain Valley is a fairly affluent Orange County city with a population of approximately 55,313 as estimated during the census of 2010. It offers wide variety of natural and manmade attractions, spearheaded by the Mile Square Regional Park. This vast expanse of parkland covers a 2.6 square kilometer area and encompasses world-class golf courses, two lakes, and various other leisure and entertainment facilities. 20 acres of the park is devoted to an “urban-nature” spot, with an impressive collection of plants native to California. This section of the park also contains several sports and recreational facilities.

Residents of Fountain Valley have traditionally commuted to surrounding cities for work, but there has been an increase in the number of employment opportunities available right in the city. Many of these new jobs are centered on the recently developed Southpark commercial center situated by the Santa Ana River.

Although Fountain Valley’s economy traditionally relied on agricultural, this industry has largely given way to commercial development. Much of the city’s current focus is on developing small businesses, which is expected to boost the Fountain Valley economy in the coming years.
